Please join us for lunch at the new Ohio State Barrister Club at 25 W. 11th Avenue (at the corner of High and 11th), directly across the street from the law school. Opening remarks for the conference will be delivered by Professor Elliot Slotnick, an expert in politics and the judiciary from The Ohio State University
||Judges and Courtroom Security
Senators Dann and Grendell will discuss to what extent and at what levels state government can and should be involved with providing security for courtrooms and judges. Chief Judge Hood will provide his very interesting take on courtroom security, which was recently written about by the Washington Post. Marshal Wahlrab will discuss his experiences with and the future of courtroom security as an expert in the area appointed by President Bush to oversee security in the Southern District of Ohio.
||Nominations and Judicial Politics
Professors Geyh, Scherer, and Schultz are widely published authorities in the field of judicial nominations, focusing on the politics, including intense rhetorical attacks on judges and nominees, that accompany nominations and confirmation hearings. Mr. Rosenthal will give an insider's perspective on the politics of judicial nominations, as a leader of one of the interest groups most involved in the recent nominations.
