Financial Aid
Loan Assistance
Loans are readily available to Ohio State law students who are enrolled at least half time and who have no record of default on previous educational loans. Loans are provided by a variety of sources: the federal government (the Stafford and Graduate PLUS Loans), and private lenders. Students who borrow loans to finance their legal education should be fully aware of the terms of the loans and the impact repayment will have on their choice of careers and post-graduation lifestyle.
To determine the amount of loan assistance that will be necessary for the academic year, the Moritz College of Law suggests that each student complete a Budget Calculation Worksheet. This worksheet provides a tool to help identify expenses and financial aid for the year, based on each student's circumstances.
Loans for law students cannot be awarded beyond the maximum Student Budget (less grants, scholarships, and work-study). Law students who need to borrow beyond the amount permitted by the Student Budget must go through an appeal process.
