Scholarship

Steven D. Walt joined the faculty at Moritz in August, 2008, having been a visiting professor at the College in both 2006 and 2007. Professor Walt teaches a variety of commercial law courses, including Secured Transactions and Business Bankruptcy.

A cum laude graduate of Kalamazoo College, Walt holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Chicago. He earned his J.D. from Yale in 1988 and was an associate professor at the University of San Diego for three years.

He has received several academic awards, including the Whiting National Fellowship in the Humanities. In addition, he has been a visiting research scholar at Nuffield College, Oxford University, and an Amoco Foundation Term Assistant Professor of Legal Studies at the Wharton School.

Professor Walt also teaches at the University of Virginia, where he is a Professor of Law and Sullivan & Cromwell Research Professor. He is a member of the American Society for Political and Legal Philosophy and serves on the editorial board of Legal Theory.
