The Honorable Jennifer Sargus currently serves on the Belmont County Court of Common Pleas, where she has tried a large variety of both civil and criminal cases. Sargus joined the court in 1989.

She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Vanderbilt University, where she also graduated from law school. In 1982, she challenged the constitutionality of a West Virginia bar requirement that all lawyers licensed in the state reside in the jurisdiction. The West Virginia Supreme Court agreed in Sargus v. Board of Bar Examiners, 294 S.E.2d 440(1982).

Sargus practiced law for 11 years before joining the bench. She has served as an assistant public defender and assistant county prosecutor. She has argued a number of cases in the 4th, and 6th Circuits of the United States Courts of Appeals. She is admitted to the bar of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

She is married to U.S. District Judge Edmund A. Sargus
