Sexual Violence and Abuse on the Law's Front Lines
Date: Friday, March 1, 2013
Time: 1:00 - 4:30 PM
Room/Location: Saxbe Auditorium
Contact: Kimberly Jordan
This half-day symposium brings together leading practitioners from across the country and in the community to discuss rape and similar injuries on the law's front lines. From trafficking, domestically and internationally, to advocacy within the criminal justice system on behalf of victims and survivors of rape and similar forms of abuse—how should the legal system respond? What are the questions and issues that confront lawyers and advocates representing victims and survivors? How do they compare with the questions and issues that confront lawyers who must mount criminal defenses of those accused of perpetrating these harms? How do those working in the legal system on these issues see and understand the harms the legal system is addressing, and how does that shape the work they do? Led by speakers, there will be ample time during each panel for conversation with the audience.
