DC Voting Rights unlikely to move with defense bill

Congressional Democrats are leaning strongly against attaching D.C. Voting Rights legislation to a must-pass defense spending bill, as the complex politics of gun rights and a crowded appropriations schedule have closed off another potential avenue for the stalled local priority.

Steele calls on Obama to support DC voting rights

An unexpected voice is calling on President Barack Obama to support D.C. voting rights in Congress by putting the city's "Taxation Without Representation" license plates on White House vehicles. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, a Washington native, challenged Obama on Friday. Steele told WTOP radio that he's willing to place the "Taxation Without Representation" plates on his own vehicle.

Gun provision foils D.C. voting rights bill

The District's decades-long quest for a voting member in the U.S. House of Representatives got longer Tuesday. House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer said the bill was on hold indefinitely, conceding that Democratic Party leaders are stymied by an amendment to the measure that would scale back the city's tough anti-gun laws.
