Montana House District 58 Recount Completed

In Montana, a recount in the state’s House District 58 race yielded a win for Republican Krayton Kerns. As it currently stands with Kerns defeating Democrat Emelie Eaton, there is now a Republican majority in the state’s House of Representatives with 50 Republicans, 49 Democrats and 1 member of the Constitution Party (who has previously stated that he would vote with the Republicans). Montana: Senate Lead Now Over 3000

New reports say that additional returns from Butte-Silver Bow extend what had been a roughly 1700 lead to almost double that amount, over 3000. Mail-in ballot bill stalls in MT house

Voters in Montana are used to mailing in their ballots for school and local government elections. But it doesn't look like voters will have that option in federal elections. A bill that would have allowed counties the ability to choose the mail ballot option has stalled in the House State Administration Committee, and that has local election officials rethinking their options.

Election officials push bill to allow counties to go to all mail-in ballots

Existing law allows mail-in balloting for some elections, but prohibits mail-in balloting for scheduled federal, state and county elections and special elections. Senate Bill 394 would change that by allowing mail-in balloting for all elections, meaning counties could opt to forego running any traditional polling places.
