Maine Legislature Passes Bill Revising How a Party Remains on the Ballot
Existing law requires a party to poll 5% at either of the last two elections, for the office at the top of the ticket (Governor or President). The bill replaces that with the requirement that a party have 10,000 registered members who voted at the last election.

Maine lawmakers consider early voting measures
A pair of bills aimed at enhancing election turnouts in a state that already has a high rate of voter participation gained ground Thursday in the Maine House. By an 87-54 vote, representatives approved a bill that would create a pilot program for early voting in towns and cities that would have to be selected in time for next November's election. The Senate approved the measure on Wednesday.

GOP to request two recounts
Senate Minority Leader Carol Weston, R-Montville, said today that Republicans will request recounts in two close Senate races in which incumbent Republicans apparently lost.
