Ohio Republicans to Pursue Bipartisan Election Reform

Several Ohio newspapers are reporting today that leaders of the Ohio Republican Party, including House Speaker Jon Husted and Rep. Kevin DeWine, will develop their own election reform proposals, in the wake of the defeat of the reform initiatives on Tuesday's ballots. These proposals would address redistricting, the subject of Issue 4, and impartial election administration, the focus of Issue 5, but in ways different from the details of those defeated ballot measures.

Moreover, the news reports indicate that these Ohio Republicans are reaching across party lines for bipartisan input on the new reform alternatives. Republicans yesterday contacted representatives of Reform Ohio Now, the group that had placed the issues on the ballot, who apparently were receptive to exploring this kind of bipartisan endeavor.
