Intelligence Community Legal Reference Book

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has released the Intelligence Community Legal Reference Book. This book was published in 2007, but has just been released to the general public. It includes legislation, procedures, and guidelines related to intelligence and national security. All documents in the book are unclassified.

Making of the Modern Law Database

The Making of the Modern Law (Legal Treatises 1800-1926) database comprises over 21,000 works from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries on British Commonwealth and American law.  Making of the Modern Law provides full-text searching of these sources making them accessible in a manner not previously possible.   It covers nearly every aspect of law, encompassing a range of analytical, theoretical, and practical literature, some very rare. The monographs and materials in the collection include casebooks, local practice manuals, books on legal form, works for lay readers, pamphlets, letters, and speeches. The collection is of interest to scholars interested in domestic and international law, legal history, business and economics, politics and government, national defense, criminology, religion, education, labor and social welfare, and military justice.

The Making of the Modern Law Database can be accessed either on-campus or off-campus (with proper authentication).

Advanced Web Searching

There is a nice post at the TVC blog (sponsored by Ballard, Spahr, Andrews, and Ingersoll) that talks about Advanced Web Searching. Included in the article are advanced search commands for Yahoo, Google, and other search engines, as well as general tips and strategies for getting the results that you seek. For more about advanced Google searching, check out this Google Help Page.

SSRN Professor Rankings

A recent New York Times article talked about about how professors can track their "popularity" by looking at the number of times their articles are downloaded from the Social Science Research Network (SSRN), which includes the Legal Scholarship Network (LSN).

Most Dangerous Web Domains

The second annual report from the computer security company McAfee identifies the safest and most dangerous domains for users seeking to avoid spyware, viruses, and other unwanted software. This riskiest top level domain this year is ".hk" (Hong Kong); number two is ".cn" (China).
