PA Judge Blocks Voter ID Law for November Election
Today, Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson granted in part the plaintiffs' motion for a preliminary injunction in Applewhite v. Pennsylvania. Judge Simpson limited his order to the November 2012 election, prohibiting any voter disenfranchisement due to Pennsylvania's voter ID law. Under the order, a transition period for the law remains in effect during which election officials can request ID from voters, but votes will count regardless of compliance with these requests.
