Virginia NAACP says it's ready to go back to court
After losing its request for relief this afternoon, according to this report in the Washington Post, the Virginia NAACP announced that it is prepared to go back to court tomorrow (Election Day) if lines at the polls are too long. Presumably, it would renew its request, made previously in its pending case, for the court to order emergency back-up paper ballots and/or an extension of polling hours. Presumably, this statement means that the NAACP has decided not to attempt any appeal of today's ruling in the Fourth Circuit.

Arizona: Voter Registration and the Road Ahead

June arrived with two election law cases at the Supreme Court. One is still pending: a highly anticipated decision on section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. The other, more frequently overlooked, was decided yesterday. And there are some quirks of the opinion that seem to depart from the swiftly congealing conventional wisdom that the states might actually have "won," and now need only run out the clock.
