Getting Involved at Moritz

Aside from recruiting and interviewing, there are a variety of ways employers can be more involved with the Moritz College of Law and its student body. Employer involvement is a great way to raise visibility with and meet motivated and talented Moritz students. Career Services offers a number of programs and events throughout each school year designed to connect students and employers.

The Opportunity Forum and Career Fair

Opportunity ForumDesigned for our public interest, government, and work-study employers, this event is held each year in February.

The Forum brings together more than 30 public interest and public service employers seeking paid interns for the summer or for the school year, work-study eligible students, or volunteers to work in their offices.

This year it will be held on February 19 and 20, 2008. "Table Talk" sessions will be held from from noon-1:00pm. Employers wising to conduct interviews may schedule them in the morning or afternoon. Please direct questions to Cybele Smith at smith.302@osu.edu or (614) 292-7707.

Examples of Opportunity Forum employers who have participated in the past are:

  • U.S. Attorney's Office
  • The Legal Aid Society of Columbus
  • City of Cleveland Law Department
  • Franklin County Public Defender's Office
  • Ohio Consumers' Counsel

Panels

Throughout the school year, Career Services, in conjunction with employers and alumni, offers programs and panel discussions for students on career-related topics. Additionally, the college boasts numerous student groups, many of whom host substantive law and career-related presentations. If you or others in your firm or organization are interested in participating in a program or panel discussion with the Office or one of the College's many student groups, please fill out the Interest Form.

Presentations

Students appreciate employer presentations in advance of recruiting to learn more about career opportunities with a particular employer. Employer presentations can be held at any time throughout the school year. If you are interested in holding an employer presentation for students, please fill out the Interest Form.

Receptions

Employer receptions provide students with the opportunity to meet the members of your firm or organization in a setting outside of the formal interview. Employer-sponsored receptions can be held on or off campus or at the employer's place of business at the employer's discretion. The Career Services Office is happy to act as a liaison for such receptions, distributing the employer's invitations to students, marketing the reception, and assisting with other arrangements. If you would like to host a student reception, please fill out the Interest Form.

If you are planning a reception, please consider The Barrister Club, our new facility for events located across the street from the law school.
