Career Services for Employers
How to Hire Our Students
Career Services offers a variety of services to help employers recruit both students and graduates for a variety of positions. Whether employers are seeking to fill a permanent or temporary position, full- or part-time position, summer or school-year position, work-study, or legal or non-legal position, the office provides an array of recruiting mechanisms to assist employers in recruiting qualified candidates.
For the convenience of employers, on-campus interviewing periods are offered twice a year in the fall and the spring. Fall on-campus interviewing is limited to 2L and 3L students, while spring interviewing also includes our first-year law students.
New this year is the Moritz Short-term Assistance Registry (STAR), which offers a pool of students and recent graduates who are available for short-term projects.

Off-Campus Job Fairs
As a member of The National Law School Consortium (NLSC), we hold job fairs in various large US legal markets. The National Law School Consortium is an association of ten top public law schools from across the United States. Employers who participate in these job fairs include a cross section of large firms, medium-sized firms and government employers. As a member of NLSC we will be participating in the following Off-Campus Job Fairs in 2011:

Moritz Short-term Assistance Registry (STAR)
Career Services has launched a new initiative, Moritz Short-term Assistance Registry (STAR). STAR is designed to provide private sector employers a pool of qualified and pre-approved second and third year students and graduates from the class of 2011 to hire for assistance with short-term projects.The intent of the program is to provide you with short term assistance with no obligation to hire on a continued basis and to give students interested in firm or corporate counsel work an opportunity to get some experience in the practice. Such projects could include:
- Document review
- Research and writing
- Updating summaries of state and/or federal regulations
- Assisting with writing articles or updating firm newsletters
- Updating firm website
- Filing court documents
All of our participating students are well qualified to meet your needs. However, you may indicate on the application form whether you prefer to pick a candidate or to be assigned a student based on their stated area of interest and availability for the assignment.
Government & Public Interest Opportunity Forum & Job Fair
Designed for our public interest, government, and work-study employers, this event is held each year in the spring semester. The Forum brings together more than 30 public interest and public service employers seeking paid interns for the summer or for the school year, work-study eligible students, or volunteers to work in their offices. Employers will be able to select and interview students for full or half days for selected days in February 2012. Additional "Table Talk" sessions will be allow employers to provide information about their organizations to interested students. Employers may participate in either or both sessions. Examples of Opportunity Forum employers who have participated in the past are: The Legal Aid Society of Columbus, City of Cleveland Law Department, Franklin County Public Defender's Office, Ohio Consumers' Counsel, Equal Justice Foundation, Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging, Community Refugee and Immigration Services, Ohio Department of Mental Health, U.S. Attorney's Office, Franklin County Common Pleas Court, and others.

Please be sure to include a brief description of the position, contact information, to whom candidates should apply, and what application materials to include. Rate of pay or salary are helpful but optional.
Work Study
Moritz College of Law participates in the Federal Work-Study Program which is a federally funded financial aid program administered by The Ohio State University. It is designed to assist students in meeting the cost of post-secondary education through work experiences. If you are selected as an employer, federal funding will cover 75% of your pay, while 25% will be covered either by Ohio State or your agency.
To be considered as an employer, your agency must be either a public or private non-profit agency working in the public interest, serving the needs of the local community. Off-campus agencies are invited to apply during our autumn application period (October 1 through December 31).
NALP Principles and Standards for Law Placement and Recruitment Activities
Employers must adhere to the Principles and Standards for Law Placement and Recruitment Activities as set forth in the NALP Guidelines. See Section IV, Principles for Employers and Section V, Standards for the Timing of Offers.
