January 23, 2014 | Alumni

Betsy Luper Schuster ’97 has been appointed by Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich to the Tenth District Court of Appeals, filling the vacancy left behind by the late Peggy L. Bryant ’76.

Schuster, who takes office on Jan. 27, must run in the November general election to retain the seat for the remainder of the unexpired term, which ends in February 2019.

She most recently served as chief elections counsel at the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office and previously served as commissioner for the Ohio Court of Claims Crime Victims Division, as a hearing officer for the Ohio Department of Education, The Ohio State University, the Ohio Board of Cosmetology, and the Ohio Department of Public Safety. She also was the chief legal counsel and deputy chief legal counsel in the Office of the Governor and assistant attorney general in the office of the Ohio Attorney General.

Schuster has taught classes as an adjunct professor at her alma mater, the Moritz College of Law, and Capital University Law School.
