Alumnus Named 2015 OSBA Eugene R. Weir Award Recipient
The Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) has named Geoffrey Stern ’68 the winner of the 2015 Eugene R. Weir Award for Ethics and Professionalism. Stern was presented with the award during the OSBA Annual Convention on April 29, 2015.
Each year the Weir Award recognizes exceptional professional responsibility amongst Ohio lawyers who work to promote and uphold professionalism and ethics in the field. The award was founded in 1998 by the OSBA board of governors in honor of former board member Eugene R. Weir. Weir championed improvements in lawyer regulation and strongly advocated for the promotion of professionalism and legal ethics.
Stern currently practices at Kegler, Brown, Hill + Ritter, where he is a partner and chair of the firm’s professional responsibility and disciplinary proceedings practice. He served 10 years as national coordinating counsel in asbestos litigation in national and international tribunals and four years as disciplinary counsel of the Supreme Court of Ohio. Stern has also served as chair of the OSBA Committee on Legal Ethics and Professional Conduct, an organization he has been involved with since 1974.
“I am deeply honored to receive the Weir Award, particularly considering its past recipients, and having worked with Gene Weir as a member and officer of the OSBA Legal Ethics Committee,” Stern said on winning the award.
