Ahmed ’07 Receives 2012 William Oxley Thompson Alumni Award
Huda Ahmed ’07 was selected as a recipient of the 2012 William Oxley Thompson Alumni Award by the Ohio State University Alumni Association. The award recognizes alumni who are 35 or younger for early career achievement who have demonstrated distinctive achievement in a career, civic involvement, or both.
Ahmed will be formally recognized for the award at the Alumni Association’s Alumni Awards Ceremony scheduled to be held September 14.
After graduating from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, Ahmed went on to earn her MBA at Fisher College of Business, in which time she also traveled to Bolivia for a Microfinance class. The trip influenced her and five of her classmates to establish a nonprofit named International Development Collaborative, which is designed to encourage and assist the creation of entrepreneurial enterprises in developing countries.
IDC’s first project involved a women’s textile group, called Suma-Qura in Muruamaya, Bolivia, and it allowed the women to turn a greater profit by producing Buckeye scarves to be sold in Columbus. Ahmed now works full-time as IDC’s general counsel.
