Former U.S. Senator Sarbanes Visits April 11
The Program on Law and Leadership welcomes former U.S. Senator Paul Sarbanes (MD) as part of its Speaker Series on April 11. All Moritz alumni, faculty, staff, and students are invited to hear Sarbanes speak. In his over 35 years in Congress, Sarbanes was a leader, statesman, and active legislator. He introduced the First Article of Impeachment of Richard Nixon, served on the Senate Select Committee investigating the Iran-Contra affair, was the ranking member of the Senate Whitewater Committee, was one of the principal authors of the National Affordable Housing Act, and authored one of the most sweeping corporate reform measures since the New Deal. He served in the Kennedy administration and had leadership roles in Congress during six different presidential administrations. ››Register Now

Sign Up Now for April 14 Legislation Clinic Conference
The Legislation Clinic at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law presents a conference on “Legislative Constitutionalism” on April 14, at the Vern Riffe Center in downtown Columbus. The conference will consider the opportunity and responsibility that legislatures have to contribute to constitutional discourse. Robin L. West, the Frederick J. Haas Professor of Law and Philosophy at the Georgetown University Law Center, will provide the conference’s keynote luncheon address, and two afternoon panels will probe additional questions about legislators’ roles in developing and implementing constitutional principles. ››Learn more and register

OSLJ Symposium is April 15
Broadly understood, "progressive constitutionalism" encompasses a number of projects that critically assess the U.S. Supreme Court's practice of judicial review, including its understanding of judicial supremacy, in matters of constitutional interpretation. How, exactly, do these projects fit together? Do they constitute parts of a larger whole? How does progressive constitutionalism relate to more conventionally "liberal" versions of constitutionalism that also claim a "progressive" mantle? How do they line up with "conservative" theories of judicial review that are skeptical about the preeminent place of the Supreme Court in basic matters of national governance? This year's Ohio State Law Journal Symposium is a day-long exploration of the theory, the practice, and critiques of progressive constitutionalism, joined by some of the country's leading and emerging lights in law, history, and political theory. ››Read more

 Lynn Dennison ’93 was named senior vice president of legal, compliance and risk management at Sterling Jewelers Inc. in Akron, Ohio. Sterling Jewelers is the largest specialty jeweler retailer in the country. In her new role, Dennison will have overall leadership responsibility for Sterling’s Legal, Loss Prevention, Internal Audit, Inventory Control, Security, Tax, Insurance, Safety and Enterprise Risk departments and will serve on Sterling’s Executive Committee.
 Asim Haque ’06 was elected vice president of Community Research Partners (CRP) Board of Trustees. Haque began his two-year term on Jan. 1. As a member of the board, he will assist the Central Ohio nonprofit in its mission to strengthen and empower the community through data, information and knowledge. CRP collects, analyzes and makes available data that supports community planning and policy, as well as action by funders, program providers and residents. Haque is an associate at Schottenstein Zox & Dunn.
