| LeRoy Pernell ’74 Takes On Next Challenge |
When LeRoy Pernell graduated from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1974 he was anxiously entering what he expected would be a long career as a trial attorney.
Once he passed the bar exam, LeRoy got his foot in the courtroom door by accepting a position as a public defender in Columbus. He worked on a variety of cases, mostly in juvenile and adult criminal courtrooms.
But, after about a year of trial work, he was asked by Ohio State to be a supervising attorney for the College’s clinical program. Although it was not something he had originally planned to pursue, he accepted the challenge.

| Still Time to Register For the Barton Memorial Cup |
Register by May 17 for the 3rd Annual Barton Memorial Cup golf tournament. The outing will be a modified Ryder Cup match-play format where alumni and faculty will face off against students to determine which side will gain possession of the Barton Memorial Cup.
We welcome all alumni, students, faculty, and friends of the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law to participate in this June 14 event. Proceeds benefit the Robert K. Barton Memorial Scholarship Fund.

| Sam Porter ’53 Continues to Impact Community |
 In 55 years practicing law, Samuel Porter ’53 has accomplished plenty. He’s argued significant cases – including one before the U.S. Supreme Court. He’s represented a variety of clients. He’s taught hundreds of future lawyers and mentored dozens more. But the Columbus native – who still goes to the office daily – isn’t ready to stop. | Moritz Shares Record Number of EJW Fellowships |
The Moritz College of Law is well known for its outreach in nonprofit and public interest areas of the law. Since 2002, 11 Moritz graduates have received fellowships with Equal Justice Works, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that works to build support in the legal profession for public interest lawyers and attorneys. There are currently six Moritz alumni serving two-year appointments with EJW. Along with UC Berkeley, Moritz shares the record for most EJW post-graduate fellowships.
The College is proud to announce that Moritz 3Ls Katherine Rogers and Laura Sminchak have received fellowships with EJW for 2008-10, and Kathleen Clyde will be on the EJW National Advisory Council Board of Directors. (Read More)

| Professor Brudney Awarded University-wide Teaching Honor |
Professor James Brudney was recently named one of the 10 recipients of the University-wide 2008 Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching.
Professor Brudney, who is a visiting professor at Harvard Law School this semester, has worked at Ohio State since 1992. He is commuting from Columbus and was at Moritz on a recent Friday afternoon when he received a surprise visit from Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee to announce his selection. (Read more) |

| Five Questions with Professor Edward B. Foley |
Edward B. Foley, Robert M. Duncan/Jones Day Designated Professor of Law at Moritz, is the director of Election Law @ Moritz.
One of the nation’s preeminent experts on election law, Professor Foley teaches and writes in all areas of this field, including campaign finance regulation.
His current work focuses on the less-developed law of voting administration: provisional voting, registration rules and procedures, Help American Vote Act, recounts and judicially disputed elections.
