| Moritz grads heeded call to head west |
Knowing that Ohio State Law alumni are located throughout the country, it’s not surprising to hear that Seattle has its fair share of Buckeyes. But one class in particular – the Class of 1968 – includes at least seven members who relocated there shortly after graduating. Most of them remained in Seattle, leading successful careers there. We caught up with three of them – Ron Perey, Jon Schorr, and Bo Barker – to learn how they are doing and what they remember about Ohio State Law nearly 40 years later. Perey is a plaintiffs’ personal injury and medical malpractice trial lawyer; Schorr is a CPA tax lawyer; and Barker is a plaintiffs’ construction defect trial lawyer. (Read More) |

| As the new year starts, the Office of Alumni Relations at Moritz has undergone some reorganizing and restructuring. Former Director Laura Landy Carr, with her high energy and keen organization skills, is moving to the College’s graduate and international programs to assist with the ever increasing workload involved with the new LL.M. and Oxford University programs. | Serving Others: The Common Denominator for an Uncommon Student |
To say Simon Lee’s work experience is diverse would be an understatement. The 34-year-old 2L’s resume is a potpourri of occupations, including stints as a kindergarten teacher, American Sailing Association certified sailing instructor, Fulbright Scholar in South Korea, after-school tutoring center director, a program director and grant writer for a nonprofit organization, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, in addition to working for one of the hundreds of dot-coms that exploded in the early 2000s. After all these jobs, Simon turned to law school to do what he enjoyed doing the most – helping people. (Read More) |
| Journal on Dispute Resolution to Host Symposium Jan. 24 |
| Alternative Dispute Resolution has become an increasingly important feature of conflict resolution throughout varying areas of law and policy. Dispute system design goes beyond specific disputes and dispute resolution mechanisms and instead embraces the broader range of conflicts within an organization in order to address reoccurring conflicts, and provide a pervasive method for problem solving. The increased use and popularity of dispute system designs are accompanied by an increasing number of criticisms. Therefore the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution has assembled a group of foremost experts in dispute system design to share ideas through panel discussion, scholarly research, and breakout sessions to further enhance the benefits of dispute system design on Jan. 24. Professor Garry Jenkins is the co-director of the Program on Law and Leadership and the faculty advisor to the Ohio State Law Journal. His research and writing interests include law and philanthropy, leadership studies, corporate social responsibility, and civil rights in education. Prior to joining the Ohio State faculty in the fall of 2004, Professor Jenkins was chief operating officer and general counsel of The Goldman Sachs Foundation, a $200 million international corporate foundation. | Moritz Study Finds Deficiencies in Election Administration Systems |
With the 2008 presidential election quickly approaching, a recent analysis of the election administration systems of several key battleground states showed deficient systems that jeopardize voters' access to the polls and the integrity and finality of election results. Researchers at Election Law @ Moritz, with the generous financial support of The Joyce Foundation, conducted a comprehensive study of the election administration systems in five Midwestern states – Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, focusing on how voters register, ballots are cast and recounts are conducted.
