Just because the University main library is under construction doesn’t
mean you can’t still access its vast resources. Members of the Ohio
State Alumni Association have access to the Ohio
State University Libraries. This includes on-site borrowing privileges,
as well as entry to the Alumni Online Library, a database that contains
6 million volumes in the Ohio State collection and offers access to more
than 38 million more. Users also can access databases on a broad spectrum
of subjects.

What I did on my summer vacation...
For many Ohio State students summer vacation isn’t about relaxing
by the pool. They spent the summer trotting the globe: studying architecture
in Europe and agriculture in China, volunteering in Mexico, and learning
Arabic in Yemen. Find

OSU popular with first-generation students
Nearly one quarter of the first-year students entering OSU this fall are
expected to be first in their family to graduate from college. The figure

U.S. News and Washington Monthly release annual
rankings
Ohio State is again ranked 19th among the nation's top 50 public universities,
according to the U.S. News & World Report's 2008 edition
of America's Best Colleges. Ohio State is rated 10th among national public
institutions in the Washington Monthly College Guide.

Research News
Diabetics save thousands by using insulin pensDiabetics who need insulin could significantly reduce their annual healthcare costs by using an insulin pen instead of a syringe. A study found that using an insulin pen may result in fewer trips to the ER and doctor's office, resulting in substantial savings to diabetics and their insurers.
Year-round schools no better for students
A sociologist at OSU found that, over a full year, math and reading test
scores improved about the same amount for children in year-round schools
as they did for students whose schools followed a traditional nine-month

Check out the new
OSU commercial to be aired during football games. The spot uses images
from students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
Athletics good stuff
Katie Dull of the women’s volleyball team had career highs of 19
points, 14 kills, three ace serves, four block assists and 14 digs in
the 3-0 win over Youngstown State.
Goalkeeper Lauren Robertson recorded three shutouts and 13 saves to be
named Big Ten women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Robertson,
from Mission Viejo, Calif., was instrumental in three Buckeye wins, recording
shutouts against Wright State (3-0), Pepperdine (1-0), and San Diego (2-0).
OSU Hall of Fame inductions
The 2007 class was officially inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall
of Fame this month. The inductees include Andy Dumpis (volleyball), Ivan
Gilbert (fencing), Marv Homan (administration), Pete Johnson (football),
Susan Mallery (track/cross country), Kristy Dascoli (tennis), Yalena Kalkina
(fencing), Conny Kirsch (rowing) and Anna Smith (softball). Long-time
equipment manager Brice “Wes” Westfall was presented with
an honorary Varsity "O."
