Gee's goals
Just days after returning to Ohio State, President E. Gordon Gee outlined
his goals for the university in a speech to Faculty Council. Some of the
goals mentioned in the speech are putting students first, focusing on
faculty success, and simplifying the university's systems and structures.

OSU Newark celebrates golden anniversary
When OSU Newark opened on October 1, 1957 the regional campus had 80 students
and eight faculty members. Fifty years later, OSU Newark expects between
2,450 and 2,500 students this fall. [Learn

RESEARCH NEWS
Using eggshells for hydrogen fuel
Engineers have found a way to turn discarded chicken eggshells into an alternative energy source. The process uses eggshells to absorb carbon dioxide from a reaction that produces hydrogen fuel. It also includes a unique method for peeling the collagen-containing membrane from the inside of the shells, allowing the collagen to be used commercially. [Read More]
OSU moves up in research funding rankings
OSU ranks seventh nationally among all public universities in research expenditures and a remarkable second place when it comes to industry-sponsored research. Ohio State's total research expenditures were $652 million for fiscal year 2006, an increase of 7 percent over 2005's $609 million. [Read More]

Documentary to focus on OSU/UM Rivalry
Presented four days before the Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Michigan
Wolverines at Ann Arbor, HBO presents MICHIGAN VS. OHIO STATE: THE RIVALRY,
premiering Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at 10:30 PM ET / 9:30 PM CT. This
documentary chronicles the rivalry of Ohio State and Michigan, one of
the most glorious rivalries in college football history. Steeped in a
rich tradition dating back to their inaugural meeting in 1897, this rivalry
extends beyond the pursuit of a Big Ten title, and is renewed each year
through the pageantry and colliding cultures that distinguish the two
schools. With names like Bo Schembechler and Woody Hayes, Archie Griffin
and Desmond Howard, the characters and storylines depicted in this documentary
are memorable--not only to each university, but to the sports world at

Shooter sets new school record
Seth Berglee, in his first competition with the Buckeyes, won three events at the pistol team's Ohio Cup and set two school records. He won the open free pistol competition with a 527 score. He had a 568 score in open air pistol, setting the Ohio State record. In the open three-gun aggregate, Berglee scored a 1,631 to establish a school record.
Softball sweep
The softball team went 4-0 at the Seventh Annual Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic. The event is one of the largest in Central Ohio benefiting the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. Chris Spielman, Stefanie's husband and former All-American linebacker for the Buckeyes, spoke to all the teams and fans Sunday and threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Ohio State went 8-1 during its fall season and will spend the rest of the fall and early winter months prepping for the 2008 season, which begins Feb. 8 in Florida.
Northwestern marked stadium's 500th game
The September 22 victory over Northwestern was the 500th game to be played in Ohio Stadium. [More on the history of the stadium]
