outsiders associate Las Vegas with casinos, neon lights and buzzing
atmosphere, Mandy Shavinsky '00 knows it as home, and as a city filled
with endless possibilities. As a real estate development lawyer, she
has had a hand in shaping her hometown. She lays the legal foundation
for the creation of new mixed-use developments, which offer a multitude
of residential and commercial opportunities. "The sheer scale of the
development here is very exciting; there are numerous projects in
which I am involved that are re-shaping the Las Vegas skyline," she

| Hon. Carla Moore '77 Honored with College's Distinguished
Jurist Award at Hooding Ceremony |
Each
year, the Moritz Alumni Society presents the William K. Thomas Distinguished
Jurist Award to a current or former judge whose personal integrity
and commitment to fairness, freedom, and equality exemplify the highest
ideals of the judicial system. At the hooding ceremony for the Class
of 2007 on May 11, Dean Rogers presented this special award to Judge
Carla Moore '77. For fifteen years on the bench of the Akron Municipal
Court, and now from the Ohio Ninth District Court of Appeals, Judge
Moore has served the people of northwest Ohio with distinction. (Read

| Carol King '79: A Series of Happy Accidents on
the Path to a Diverse Career |
Carol
King '79 has always known that being open to possibilities could lead
to great opportunities. Following graduation from law school, she
launched an unconventional legal career where her willingness to try
new things brought her a succession of opportunities. The breadth
of her experience encompasses private practice, state employment,
running a nonprofit, creating a mediation program, serving low-income

and family from near and far gathered to witness the rite of passage
that signals the transition from law student to alumnus. Dean Nancy
H. Rogers presided over the Hooding Ceremony on May 11, which celebrated
the achievements of 237 new graduates and honored Al Clovis as outstanding

Professor by the Class of 2007 |
Each
year, the third-year class chooses a faculty member to recognize as
outstanding professor. To receive the award requires that the recipient
has a special mix of talents: mastery of the subject, making the material
interesting, engaging students, and—most of all—caring about student
success. A three-time winner, Professor Albert L. Clovis again received
the Outstanding Professor Award, and had the important honor of hooding
the members of the Class of 2007 as they marked their final day as
