Minor Changes in the 2008 Academic Calendar
OSU will hold spring break a week earlier than usual next year, and will
shorten summer quarter by a week, to avoid holiday conflicts. [More

Spring 2007 Commencement
Seven honorary doctorates were given at the commencement ceremony on June
10. Recipients include Dr. Gerald D. Buckberg, medical researcher and
cardiac surgeon; Jean-Pierre G. Changeux, a pioneer in the field of modern
neurobiology; former U.S. President Bill Clinton, who delivered the commencement
address; Karen A. Holbrook, retiring president of The Ohio State University;
and Gilberto Gil Moreira, a Grammy award-winning world musician and Brazil's

Groundbreaking held for the University District’s Neighborhood
Policing Center
Construction has begun on the Neighborhood Policing Center in the University
District. Located at 248 E. 11th Ave. between Summit and North Fourth
streets, the $4.4 million, 13,500 square-foot facility will serve as the
new Columbus police substation for Precinct 4 and will include permanent
office space for University Police, Community Crime Patrol and a Neighborhood
Pride Center. Meeting rooms will also be provided for residents and community
organizations. Construction is scheduled for completion in summer 2008.
Ohio State and the city will share equally in the cost. [More

Saying goodbye to President Holbrook
The Columbus Dispatch takes a look back on President Karen Holbrook’s
time as OSU president. Holbrook will retire from the university at the

The Big Ten Network will launch in August with the start of the football
season. The network will offer a programming lineup of major events unparalleled
within college sports TV today- more than 350 live events – including

Diver Named ESPN The Magazine First Team All American
Ohio State diver Kellen Harkness was named to the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-America At-Large First Team. Harkness adds the first team
honor to his Third Team Academic All-America selection in 2006. [Read

Two Buckeye Gymnasts Qualify for 2007 VISA Championships
DJ Bucher and Sean Regan of the Ohio State men's gymnastics team advanced
to the 2007 VISA Championships held August 15-18 in San Jose, Calif.,
after qualifying at the 2007 U.S. men's national qualifier June 9 in Colorado

Athlete of the Year Honors for Jessica Davenport
Jessica Davenport of the women's basketball team was named as one of two
2007 Ohio State Athletes of the Year by the Ohio State department of athletics.
Davenport, who finished her career in 2007 as the program's first three-time
All-American, also was named 2006 Women's Ohio State Athlete of the Year
and is the first repeat women's winner since Donica Merriman earned the
honor for her performance on the track and field team in 2000 and '01.
