On
October 27, the Ohio State University Alumni Association presented
the William Oxley Thompson Award to Mónica Ramírez Guerrero
’03. Created to honor early career achievement, the award recognizes
Mónica’s commitment to securing equal rights and protections
for one of our nation’s most marginalized groups: migrant women

Two
New Yorkers with flourishing pro bono practices came back to the Midwest
on October 21. Family, friends and fellow alumni were in attendance
as Dean Nancy Rogers presented David Braff ’84 and Bob Reeder
’84 (all pictured at left) with the 2006-2007 Moritz Community

| Moritz Award Recognizes Jim Daniels '78 and Frank Woodside '69 for Commitment to Public Service |
Frank
C. Woodside III ’69 and James Daniels ’78 (pictured at
right with Dean Nancy Rogers) joined an impassioned group of Buckeye
fans at the Michigan tailgate. Before the game of the year began,
they were presented with the 2006-2007 Moritz Public Service Award,
honoring their commitment to access to justice for all persons. (Read

| Vicki L. Sproat '78: A Career of "Firsts" |
As
a young woman entering the legal profession in the late 1970s, Vicki
L. Sproat experienced one of many “firsts” in her professional
experiences: she was the first woman hired by Henderson Franklin Starnes
& Holt. “I was kind of an oddity when I started. I don’t
think they knew what to do with me or what to expect. In some ways,
people’s expectations were lower.” At the time, there
were very few female attorneys with any civil trial practice experience.
In time, she surpassed others’ expectations by becoming the
firm’s first female partner and stockholder. (Read

| Fulbright Scholar Benjamin Hill '07 Studies the
Effects of Gang Violence in Honduras |
Fulbright
recipient Benjamin Hill returned to Moritz this fall for his third
year of law school. His research project led him to Honduras, where
he learned firsthand from the citizens of Tegucigalpa how their lives
have been affected by anti-gang legislation. (Read
