For Judge Janet Burnside '77 of the Cuyahoga County (Ohio) Court of Common
Pleas, it was the social climate of the early 1970s that steered her
from the classroom to the courtroom. As an undergraduate, the Ohio
native had her heart set on becoming a teacher. The Equal Rights Amendment

faculty and staff to the After the Bar Party at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday,
July 28 at Moritz. Come party hearty, share war stories, and second-guess

| Professor Sarah R. Cole Honored as Squire, Sanders & Dempsey Designated Professor |
A
keen intellect, creative problem-solving, and a cooperative spirit
blend to make Professor Sarah Cole a natural in the field of alternative
dispute resolution, and led to her selection as the first holder of
the Squire, Sanders & Dempsey Designated Professorship. Squire Sanders
Managing Partner Alex Shumate says, "The selection of Professor Cole
reinforces our commitment to excellence in the law. She is one of
the rising stars of the Moritz faculty, and her specialty, alternative
dispute resolution, reflects an aspect of the law that is rapidly
becoming important, not just for lawyers but for everyone in today's

| Moritz Announces Journal for the New Information Age |
Moritz Professors Peter Shane (right) and Peter Swire led the Moritz faculty effort to initiate a new journal that bridges the disciplinary gaps between law, information technology, social science, and policy analysis. It serves as an interdisciplinary forum to address pressing issues of law and policy posed by the proliferation of highly networked digital information and communications technologies (ICTs). I/S: A Journal of Law and Policy for the Information Society is aimed at scholars, practitioners, and policy makers seeking frameworks for addressing emerging challenges and opportunities. | Sally W. Bloomfield '69 Takes Reins of Columbus Bar Association |
Sally
W. Bloomfield's swearing in as new president of the Columbus Bar Association
sounded the themes that have defined her life, family and service
to others. She was sworn in by her father, Paul Ward '39 and immediately
thanked her husband, law school classmate David S. Bloomfield '69,
for a lifetime of behind-the-scenes support. In acceptance remarks,
she quickly turned to the theme of service and pledged to lead the
implementation of the new Ohio rules that may require attorneys to
report pro bono work to the Supreme Court of Ohio. (Learn
