| Mentoring @ Moritz Program Unveiled at April 8 Meeting with Students |
In August 2005, the Moritz College will open a facility named the
Barrister Club, a $2.2 million conference/dining facility built specifically
with private funds to house programming that will enable students,
faculty, practitioners and alumni to interact and participate in a
variety of programs. A new mentoring program for students is the centerpiece

Jayanth K. Krishnan '96: Working at the Intersection of Human Rights, Law and Politics |
Less than ten years after Moritz graduation, Jayanth K. Krishnan '96 is an award-winning professor at William Mitchell College of Law and consulting with the World Bank and the United Kingdom's Department for International Development. Once uncertain about his future, he credits then-Associate Dean Nancy H. Rogers for what he calls, "the best career advice I was ever given." (learn

Laura Carpenter '97: Prescription for the Good Life |
When Laura Carpenter '97 (pictured at the 'Shoe with husband Brian)
was in law school, she told everyone that she wanted to practice pharmacy
law. What could be more fun, she said, than figuring out how to comply
with the myriad of laws affecting pharmacy - state board of pharmacy,
FDA, DEA, state department of health, state DIPS (for controlled substances),
and Medicare? "They all looked at me with blank looks on their faces
as if to say, 'You really want to be that specialized? Is there really
a market in pharmacy law?'" she laughs. Thank goodness, there is -
and she is living her dream. (learn

Jeffrey Horst '83 has been involved in a number of high profile cases that have been written about in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Tampa Tribune, Raleigh News & Observer, National Law Journal, and Fulton County Daily Report . Based on peer recommendations, he was recently named one of Georgia's most effective lawyers by Georgia Trend magazine and as one of Georgia's "Super Lawyers" by Atlanta Magazine . | Alumni Invited to April 22 Schwartz Lecture, "Mercy, Clemency, and Capital Punishment: Two Accounts" |
Alumni, friends and the public are invited to hear Amherst Professor
Austin Sarat explore issues of clemency for condemned inmates on death
row. In his lecture, Professor Sarat will focus on how chief executives,
specifically former Illinois Governor George Ryan and former Ohio
Governor Michael DiSalle, use rhetoric and narrative to cope with
the emotionally-charged decision to spare a life, or let someone die,
and how they justify their use of this power.The lecture will be at noon on April 22; a complimentary boxed lunch will be served. (learn more & RSVP for lunch) |
