Moritz to Honor Niki Z. Schwartz '64 on May 13 in Cleveland
Niki Z. Schwartz has many monikers: "a civil libertarian
of impeccable pedigree," a "pioneer of prison reform,"
and perhaps most laudatory, "the lawyer other lawyers
call." Best known for successfully negotiating an end
to the Lucasville prison riot in 1993, Niki is a skilled litigator
who has won cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, argued 25
cases before the Supreme Court of Ohio, and handled a wide
range of high profile civil liberties cases, winning most.
Moritz alumni attending the Ohio State Bar convention and
friends will gather on May 13 to celebrate his distinguished
career. (learn more) |
George Fisher '53: Sailing's Gentleman Champion
At a time in life when everyone expects you to slow down,
George Fisher '53 (far left) keeps getting faster. In his
59 years of sailing, George has claimed 16 national sailing
titles -- six since he turned 70. "After all these years,
I still love to sail," he says. "Every time I race,
I still get butterflies." (learn

Carl Smallwood '80 and George Hairston '68 Honored for Diversity Initiatives
An innovative program to recruit and retain minority attorneys
in Columbus law firms and creation of a minority scholarship/clerkship
program now in place nationwide earned Carl Smallwood and
George Hairston (left) the Moritz Black Law Students Association
(BLSA) chapter's inaugural Commitment to Diversity Awards.
The awards were presented at the chapter's 25th anniversary

Class of 2004 Honors Jacob E. Davis Professor James E. Meeks as Outstanding Professor
Dean, scholar, teacher, and special assistant to both the
university general counsel and a university vice president
-- during his 27 years of distinguished service at Ohio State,
James Meeks has, at various times, worn all of these hats,
and worn them exceedingly well. Not surprisingly, graduates
of the class of 2004 have honored him outstanding professor
in recognition of his outstanding performance as a teacher.
