| 2003 Distinguished Alumnus Jack Creighton '57, CEO Extraordinaire |
John W. "Jack" Creighton, Jr. '57 (left) is
the sort of man who gives corporate CEO's a good name.
The capstone of his corporate career was service as President
and CEO of Weyerhaeuser from 1991 through 1997. An international
company currently employing about 58,000 people in 18 countries
with annual sales of $18.5 billion, Weyerhaeuser has ranked
number one in the forest products industry in social responsibility
in Fortune magazine's annual corporate reputation survey for

| Ilene Cohn '85: At Home in the World of Human Rights |
Among those affected by the recent attack on the United Nations
headquarters in Iraq is Ilene Cohn '85 (left), Chief of
Policy, Information, and Resource Mobilization at the United
Nations Mine Service (UNMAS). The attack occurred as the UNMAS
director and mine-action colleagues in Iraq were briefing journalists
on the enormous quantities of explosive ordnance lying unguarded
in Iraq. Among the wounded and dead were colleagues Ilene has
come to know and respect in the course of her 18-year career
as a human rights advocate. (learn

| An Accidental Academic: Meet Frank R. Strong Chair in Law Joshua Dressler |
Looking back, it was inevitable that Joshua
Dressler would become a leading figure in criminal law.
Yet, it almost didn't happen. Professor Dressler, the
Frank R. Strong Chair in Law, who joined the faculty in 2002
almost did not become a lawyer. And when he did, he launched
his career as a legal educator by one of those lucky accidents
of life. Through the eyes of colleague Sandy
Caust-Ellenbogen learn more about a driving force behind
the creation of the Ohio
State Journal of Criminal Law, debuting this fall.

| New DC Program Brings Theory to Life |
Samar Kaukab (right) was among the Moritz students who made recommendations
on strategy to Andy Purdy, current head of the National
Cyber Security Division of the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security this July in Washington DC. The presentation was a
culminating activity of a new Washington
DC internship program designed to bring regulatory theory,
policy, and practice to life through a unique combination of
real-life experience and academic study.(learn

| Moritz Launches New Criminal Law Journal |
Founding Board members (left) are proud to announce the launching
of the Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law, a peer-evaluated,
faculty-student cooperative venture published by the Michael
E. Moritz College of Law. The Journal is published semi-annually,
and will be a forum for important scholarship written by academics
and professionals in the criminal justice field. The Journal
intends, through its symposia, commentary, and book and cultural
review sections, to provide useful and serious, but also interesting
and provocative, discourse on critical issues in the field of
criminal justice. The publication is the third in an array of
Moritz journals that include the Ohio
State Law Journal, and the Ohio
State Journal of Dispute Resolution published in cooperation
with the ABA Section on Dispute Resolution. (Learn

| Moritz Welcomes its Newest Class |
Newton D. Baker/Baker and Hostetler Chair in Law Jim Brudney
visited with two members of the Class of 2006 (left) at the
August 15 orientation cookout for new students. The cookout
was part of the two-day, student-run orientation that included
presentations by faculty, students, staff, and other university
representatives as well as a number of social gatherings. A
highlight was a "new student welcome" by Ohio Supreme
Court Justice Thomas J. Moyer '64 and his presentation
of the 2003 Moritz Community Service Award to Susan E. Brown
