| Professorship Created to Honor John C. Elam of Vorys, Sater, Seymour, and Pease |
Sharon L. Davies has been named the John C. Elam/Vorys Sater
Designated Professor of Law. The professorship was made possible
by the generosity of the Moritz College alumni at Vorys, Sater,
Seymour, and Pease in honor of John C. Elam, presiding partner
during the 31 years in which the firm grew from 22 to 278
lawyers. A leader within the profession known for his skill
as a trial attorney, he served as president of both the American
College of Trial Lawyers and the Columbus Bar Association.
Professor Davies was able to meet and express her appreciation
to John C. Elam shortly before his death in
late December.Professor Davies is one of six named to designated professorships funded by alumni during the past year. Designated professorships provide recognition and enhance financial support, which help retain promising mid-level scholars, many of whom are routinely approached by other law schools. In addition to her promise as a scholar, Professor Davies shares many of the attributes that characterize her professorship's namesake. (Learn more) |

informing her theoretical studies with her own experience,
and the experience of women she knows in their struggles with
discrimination. An expert in Title VII, Professor Chamallas has written extensively on race and gender discrimination in employment, exploring such topics as tokenism, part-time work, sexual harassment, and job segregation. Her 1999 book, Introduction to Feminist Legal Theory, has been widely adopted for seminars and courses on feminism and jurisprudence in law schools, and graduate programs in women's studies and other disciplines.
