Herman Weber

Herman J. Weber '52 for Distinguished Jurist given to a current or former judge who has graduated from the college and whose personal integrity and commitment to fairness, freedom, and equality exemplify the highest ideals of the judicial system.

Herman Jacob Weber is an Article III federal judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He joined the court in 1985 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Weber currently serves on senior status.

Weber started his career in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1945 to 1946. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Otterbein University in 1949 and a Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 1952. Upon graduating, he and a fellow Moritz graduate operated a private practice in Fairborn, Ohio from 1952 to 1961. In addition to being a private practice attorney, Weber also served as a deputy mayor in the Fairborn Mayor's Court from 1955 to 1957 and served intermittently as an acting municipal judge for Fairborn from 1958 to 1960.

In 1961, Weber was elected a judge in the Greene County Common Pleas Court from 1961 to 1982 before being elected judge of the Ohio Second District Court of Appeals from 1982 to 1985.
