Columbus Bar Honors Stephen E. Chappelear '77 and Rick E. Marsh '59
Dedicated, committed, exceptional – those words go a long way toward describing the two distinguished Moritz alumni being honored at the Columbus Bar Association's Annual Meeting on June 3. Stephen E. Chappelear and Rick E. Marsh will join a truly extraordinary group of individuals when they receive the Association's Bar Service Medal and the Professionalism Award.
Stephen E. Chappelear is partner-in-charge and chair, Litigation, in the Columbus office of Hahn Loeser + Parks. He focuses on trials and appeals of all civil disputes, and past litigation has included contract disputes, theft of trade secrets, trademark infringement, patent infringement, construction disputes, personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, workers' compensation, employment disputes, covenants not to compete, unfair competition, competitive bidding disputes, securities trading arbitrations, commercial landlord-tenant disputes and will contests.
He is a past president of the Columbus and Ohio State Bars, a member of the American Bar Association, and is incoming president of the American Inns of Court, Franklin Chapter. Steve also shows a commitment to the community by using his time and talent as a member of numerous organizations including The Rotary Club, and the Citizens Advisory Board of the Franklin County Community Based Corrections Facility. He also serves on the Board of the Ohio Bar Liability Insurance Corporation, and is a volunteer mediator.
Rick E. Marsh, a partner at Lane Alton & Horst, received the Professionalism Award in recognition of exceptional dedication to the standards of the profession and for demonstrated integrity and humanitarian concern. Rick currently practices in accident insurance, automobile insurance, insurance bad faith, uninsured motorists coverage and legal malpractice defense. He is a member of the Columbus, Ohio State and American Bar Associations; International Association of Defense Counsel; Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys; the Defense Research Institute; American Board of Trial Advocates; and is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Rick has been an active participant in the Columbus Bar. Consistent with the ideals of the profession, Rick has endeavored to offer confidentiality, competency, diligence and his best judgments to his clients and has extended courtesy, respect and candor to his colleagues.
