Reunions Take New Shape at Moritz This Fall

For the most up-to-date information on Moritz reunions, please visit our Reunions page.

A Little Background

Jim Masters' New Orleans Jazz Band
The Jim Masters' New Orleans Jazz Band, enjoyed by Debbie Bailey in 2003, is returning.

For many years, the Moritz "Alumni Return" weekend has followed a quinquennial pattern, meaning that all reunion classes, from the 5th to the 50th, were invited back on the same weekend for class dinners and other celebrations. In 2001, we began asking alumni for feedback about Alumni Return weekend. We've used that feedback to drive decisions about future reunion programming.

You told us your favorite location is the College of Law and you most want quality time with classmates. Many of you like access to football tickets and our tailgates are steadily growing in popularity. With that in mind, we designed what we hope will be a new and improved reunion program

A New Reunion, a New Regional Event

Bob Guehl
Bob Guehl '73 enjoys the amazing Cajun buffet in 2003 — chocolate bourbon bread pudding, anyone?

Beginning in Fall 2004, the College will host three tailgates on football weekends, and associate each with a single "milestone" reunion class—to spotlight 10th, 25th and 50th reunion classes. The new tailgates will actively involve students and faculty, and will include tours of the new construction in the building, such as the "smart" classrooms, renovated moot courtroom, and Lou's Café. Alumni will still have the opportunity to buy football tickets if they wish.

Beyond inviting "milestone" reunion classes, we'll be sending invitations for all three tailgates to Ohio alumni and out-of-state season football ticket holders, creating another social opportunity for alumni.

Law faculty will serve as "celebrity" servers and current law students will be invited to meet with alumni.

Here's a preview:

September 11, 2004

New Orleans Jazz Brunch Featuring the Class of 1954
(Two hours before the OSU vs. Marshall game)
This is a shoe-in for anyone who enjoyed the chocolate bourbon bread pudding or the New Orleans Jazz at last year's brunch!

October 9, 2004

Oktoberfest by Schmidt's with the Class of 1979
(Two hours before the OSU vs. Wisconsin game)
We'll feature special programs on college admissions and financial aid for parents and their high-school-age kids. We'll offer all the German Village favorites from Schmidt's including the creampuffs and an oom-pah band.

October 30, 2004

Cucina Toscana with the Class of 1994
(Two hours before the OSU vs. Penn State game)
Figlio restaurateurs and alumni Peter '83 and Laurie Danis '82 return to the Moritz. They will offer specialties from their popular Columbus restaurants. We've invited Brutus Buckeye to stop by for family photograph opportunities.

If you have a 5th, 15th, 20th, or even 30th, 40th, or 45th reunion coming up, don't let our new reunion program stop you from organizing a gathering! Alumni Relations can help class organizers facilitate a reunion gathering:

  • If you'd like to get together with your classmates, consider having it on one of these three weekends! You'll already have a tailgate you can use as a centerpiece for your weekend.
  • Let us publicize your event: we can provide databases of classmates, mail out invitations, send email blasts, and put ads in This Month @ Moritz, the Law Record and Special Edition.
  • Keep us apprised of your dates — we'll try to have the dean and/or faculty pay a visit to your event.

Mark your calendars now. We look forward to seeing you at one or more of the new tailgates at the Moritz this fall!
