Susan Brown '71 Receives Humanities Alumni Society Alumni Award of Distinction
Moritz law alumna Susan Brown '71 received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Ohio State in history in 1968. She was one of two humanities alumni to be honored with the Humanities Alumni Society (HUMAS) Alumni Award of Distinction at graduation activities in June.
Susan is a partner in the Ohio law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, where she practices in the area of general corporate law. She has been involved in numerous corporate mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures and public stock offerings. Although a significant portion of her practice involves publicly-owned companies, particularly in connection with compliance with the federal securities laws, Susan is also involved with start-up companies in connection with their initial financing activities and long-range financial planning. She serves as general business law adviser to both public and private companies as well as to charitable organizations. She is frequently involved in negotiating and drafting contracts, financing documents, licensing arrangements, and other legal documents.
A frequent lecturer and author on topics involving securities, Susan has authored a chapter on Ohio Securities Laws for Anderson Publishing Company's Ohio Corporate Law, Volume 2 (1990). She is a former adjunct professor at Moritz, where she has taught Regulation and Securities Distribution.
Last year Moritz Law honored Susan with the Community Service Award for her leadership in raising awareness about breast cancer and her efforts to raise funds to support medical research. Also honored with the HUMAS award was Professor Charles H. Rowell of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
