Cincinnati Alumni Gather December 2 to Honor One of Their Own
The Moritz College counts Robert J. "Bob" Watkins among its most dedicated volunteers. A double Buckeye, he received a B.A. in history in 1951 and a J.D. in 1953. Following military service, he pursued a successful corporate career, culminating in a position as associate general counsel for Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati. He retired in 1989. Bob is currently president of the College's Henry Folsom Page Society, which recognizes the College's major supporters. He is a past president of the Law Alumni Society and has served as chairperson of the College's National Advisory Council.
He and his wife, Helen (B.A., psychology, 1952) established the Robert J. Watkins Scholarship Fund in 1991. Bob and other Procter & Gamble alumni funded the Procter & Gamble Faculty Excellence Award and most recently, the Moritz College of Law Robert J. Watkins/P&G Designated Professorship. Throughout the years, he has hosted numerous regional events and has served on the Major Gifts Council for Cincinnati alumni.
At the University level, Bob has chaired the executive committee of the Presidents Club and has assisted in national fund-raising efforts through service on the Development Fund Board, the National Campaign Committee, and the Steering Committee.
In recognition for his efforts on behalf of the College of Law and the larger University, Bob received the Alumni Centennial Award in 1970 and the Ralph Davenport Mershon Award in 1989. His extraordinary leadership and ambassadorship were again honored in 1991 and 2002, respectively, with the University's prestigious Distinguished Service and Gerlach Awards.
The Queen City Club event on Monday, December 2, at 5:30 p.m., is an opportunity for Cincinnati area alumni to reconnect with one another at the beginning of the holiday season, visit with Dean Nancy H. Rogers, and meet Bob Watkins in a relaxed social setting. R.S.V.P. to Chris Marcum at (614) 688-8232.
