Student Spotlights
Sarah Biebelhausen '12
Hometown: Tucson, Ariz.
Undergrad: University of Arizona
When Sarah Biebelhausen '12 heard about a Program on Law and Leadership opportunity to talk over coffee with a leader in the field of complex litigation, she eagerly responded. She knew how valuable conversing with practicing attorneys is in gaining perspective on a particular practice area. Liza Kessler '93 is partner-in-charge in the Columbus office of Jones Day and a highly respected litigator.
"It was great to hear from such an accomplished attorney in an informal, intimate setting," Biebelhausen said. "She was very straight-forward, and was really able to elaborate on some of the questions Dean Michaels and the other students asked."
Biebelhausen said that Kessler's candor provided an honest sneak peek into what a similar career path may entail. "Liza made it clear what an impact the colleagues and mentors you surround yourself with can have on you as a developing professional," she said. "Achieving your goals isn't just hard work and planning – you have to take chances and be flexible."
The breakfast was just one of the exceptional Program on Law and Leadership events in which Biebelhausen has enjoyed. "The program provides excellent exposure to professionals who are top in their fields. It's also a great way to connect with other students and learn together what it takes to achieve the levels of success the speakers have."
